SPECTRE KNEE GUARDS
THE MISSION
Most knee pads either protect well or pedal well. Rarely both.
Back in Queenstown, NZ, 2023, we set out to build something different.
A knee guard designed for long trail rides, not just bike park laps.
Serious protection.
All-day comfort.
That project became the Spectre Knee Guard.
ENJOY YOUR TRIP!
Protection comes from EYT Impact Technology.
This non-Newtonian foam stays soft and flexible while you ride, but instantly stiffens on impact to absorb and disperse energy.
The harder the hit, the more the material resists.
Low profile while pedalling.
Serious protection when things go wrong.
All Spectre knee guards are EN1621-1 certified, the European standard for limb protection.
WHY “SPECTRE”
The goal was simple.
Create a knee guard so comfortable you forget you're wearing it.
That idea led to the name Spectre.
Something that’s there, but barely noticed.
Ghost-like while riding.
Ready when you need it.
TRIAL AND ERROR
Early prototypes used Kevlar panels across the front of the knee.
Durable, but flawed.
During crashes the Kevlar could grip the ground instead of sliding, sometimes twisting the pad.
So we scrapped the idea and started again.
THE SLEEVE
The sleeve took the most development.
Fabric selection, stretch direction and panel layout were all refined to create a pad that moves naturally while pedalling but stays secure in a crash.
During this phase we also replaced the Kevlar panels with reinforced low-friction skid panels, designed to slide across dirt and rock instead of catching on the trail.
Johnny was NOT impressed with the crazy colourway.
So we dropped it.
Black only.
LOCKED IN
Keeping a knee pad in place without making it restrictive is one of the hardest problems to solve.
Instead of traditional silicone strips, the inner sleeve uses silicone coffin grippers.
Lots of small grip points allow the sleeve to stretch with your skin as your knee moves, maintaining contact instead of breaking adhesion during pedalling.
The result is a pad that stays locked in place while still feeling ghost-like on the bike
EARLY ACCESS
After months of testing, refinement and rider feedback, the Spectre Knee Guards are nearly ready.
The first release will be limited to only 100 pairs.
